Texas Children's Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Inpatient Acute Renal Dialysis unit. In this fast-paced role, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients by assessing, planning, educating, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate care that incorporates family-centered principles and cost-effective practices.
Clinical Setting
You will work in the Acute Renal Dialysis unit at Texas Children's Medical Center, providing specialized care to patients requiring dialysis treatment in an inpatient setting.
Responsibilities
- Assess and collect patient and family data including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and environmental information per site protocol
- Troubleshoot dialysis needs and work independently on cases with a small team of other dialysis nurses
- Collect and document vital signs, height, weight, and reason for visit
- Prepare patients for examination per site protocol
- Assist providers during treatments, examinations, and testing as directed and within scope of practice
- Administer medications and immunizations as directed by physician per site protocol
- Document medication and immunization administration in the medical record per site protocol
- Provide patient and family education as instructed by the physician or site protocol
- Document education provided in the medical record
- Coordinate referrals
- Triage presenting patient complaints per site protocol
- Verify provider orders and patient identity per site protocol
- Collect and process specimens according to manufacturer's instructions using proper technique
- Demonstrate service philosophies to patients and families
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing, OR Associate degree in nursing or related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for RN licensure with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and a signed agreement, OR Technical Diploma in Nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement, OR current enrollment in a Nursing Bridge Program working toward an MSN with verified BSN-equivalency or a signed agreement
- Active RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse Licensure Compact
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association
- One year of professional nursing experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of dialysis nursing experience
Additional Requirements
All successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
