Job Description

Join the Adult Infusion Centers at UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center as a Registered Nurse providing direct patient care in a part-time, day shift role. You will work across multiple West Bay locations (Mt. Zion, Parnassus, and Mission Bay) serving Medical Oncology and Hematology, Blood, and Cellular Transplant patients, as well as non-oncology infusion patients.

The infusion centers collectively operate over 130 chairs and beds, delivering both research and standard-of-care treatments. You will care for patients receiving chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, hydration and electrolyte therapy, injections and blood draws, enzyme and iron infusions, and antibiotics.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care
  • Deliver direct patient care to assigned adult infusion outpatient populations
  • Function as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams
  • Carry out established nursing procedures and perform related duties as required
  • Provide nursing care for patients with complex needs with assistance and supervision as appropriate
  • Assist with management of patient care administered by other nursing team members
  • Maintain knowledge and abilities essential to performance of stated behaviors
  • Carry out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise in cancer and non-cancer disease processes, treatment modalities, symptom management, and supportive care
  • Provide patient education and serve as a clinical resource for the unit
  • Maintain adherence to National Patient Safety Goals set forth by regulatory requirements

Schedule

  • Part-time, day shift position
  • Weekend and evening shifts on an as-needed basis
  • Flexibility required to work at all West Bay Outpatient Adult Infusion Centers

Required Qualifications

  • Two or more years of recent RN clinical oncology nursing experience
  • Two years of adult outpatient infusion experience and six months of pediatric hematology/oncology experience
  • Experience administering infusions, pain management, transfusion therapy, hydration, and related therapies
  • Knowledge and ability essential to successful performance of assigned duties
  • Demonstrated basic analytic thinking necessary to care for complex patient populations such as oncology
  • High degree of attention to detail
  • Strong observational skills and ability to set priorities
  • Ability to function independently and effectively with shifting priorities and considerable pressure
  • Ability to function under stress with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Effective application of hospital standards in area of service, teamwork, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management
  • Ability to delegate tasks in a style consistent with promoting leadership and teamwork
  • Ability to develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff
  • Commitment to remaining current in professional and technical knowledge
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations

Licenses and Certifications
