The opportunity

Job Description

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – San Marcos is seeking a Registered Nurse for the IMC MedSurgical A unit. This position provides routine and complex nursing care to assigned patients, with the ability to focus on long-range goals and manage clinical contingencies. You will practice independently while demonstrating awareness of all relevant aspects of patient situations, making appropriate assignments and delegating to other care providers as needed.

Clinical Setting

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – San Marcos is a 700+ associate facility with over 300 active and consulting physicians. The hospital has been named The Best Hospital in Hays County for more than 20 consecutive years. The facility offers interventional cardiac services, is a Certified Chest Pain Center and accredited Primary Stroke Center, and leads the region in da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery. Additional specialty services include medical imaging, rehabilitation, hospice, and women's services.

Responsibilities

  • Meet expectations of applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders
  • Provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients, consistent with ANA Scope and Standards of Practice
  • Address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with your level of practice
  • Administer medications and treatments using appropriate protocol; monitor for side effects and treatment effectiveness
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medication, and care provided
  • Assess patient and family learning needs and provide education; identify issues and resources

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license in state of employment or compact
  • BLS certification required at time of hire (AHA or Red Cross accepted)
  • ACLS certification required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
  • One year of experience in a related nursing specialty

Onboarding and Competency Requirements

All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire. New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member, and initial on-boarding requirements are validated through successful completion of designated organizational entry competency validation and MedSurg-specific competency validation. All newly licensed RNs may participate in a residency program or other specific orientation. Skills and competency completion will be achieved with the preceptor at the bedside and documented through the program's tracking software. Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is required.

Credential Grace Periods

If you are an Experienced Associate (at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years), ACLS certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

If you are a New Graduate or Experienced Associate New to the Specialty (less than one year of full-time acute care clinical experience in the same service line within the past three years), ACLS certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
