This position offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive nursing care in an Intermediate Care Medical/Surgical unit. As a Registered Nurse, you will practice independently while demonstrating awareness of all relevant clinical aspects of patient situations. You will provide routine and complex care to assigned patients, manage long-range goals and plans, and develop the ability to cope with and manage clinical contingencies. You will make appropriate assignments and delegate to other care providers as needed to manage the clinical situation effectively.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients, consistent with ANA Scope and Standards of Practice
- Address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with your level of practice
- Administer medications and treatments using appropriate protocols; monitor for side effects and treatment effectiveness
- Document patient history, symptoms, medication, and care provided
- Assess patient and family learning needs and provide education to patients, family members, and caregivers; identify issues and resources
- Meet expectations of applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in state of employment or compact
- BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross) required at time of hire
- ACLS certification required
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
- One year of experience in a related nursing specialty
Onboarding and Competency Requirements
- All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire
- New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member; initial on-boarding requirements are validated through successful completion of designated organizational entry competency validation and Med/Surg specific competency validation
- All newly licensed RNs may participate in a residency program or other specific orientation; skills and competency completion will be achieved with the preceptor at the bedside and documented through the program's tracking software
- Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is required
Credential Grace Periods
Credential grace periods depend on your experience level. Experienced Associates (those with at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years) have different timelines than New Graduates and Experienced Associates New to the Specialty:
- BLS: No grace period; required at time of hire
- ACLS: 30 days for Experienced Associates; 90 days for New Graduates and Experienced Associates New to the Specialty
- PALS: 30 days for Experienced Associates; 90 days for New Graduates and Experienced Associates New to the Specialty
- TNCC: 60 days for Experienced Associates; 18 months for New Graduates and Experienced Associates New to the Specialty
- TCAR: 60 days for Experienced Associates; 18 months for New Graduates and Experienced Associates New to the Specialty
- NRP: 30 days for Experienced Associates; 60 days for New Graduates and Experienced Associates New to the Specialty
- AWHONN INTERMEDIATE FHM: 30 days for Experienced Associates; 60 days for New Graduates and Experienced Associates New to the Specialty
- STABLE: 30 days for Experienced Associates; 60 days for New Graduates and Experienced Associates New to the Specialty
