Registered Nurse II - West Ashley Medical Pavilion Observation Unit

The Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients in a 23-hour observation unit at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process. This overnight position delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results. The role will flex to other 23-hour observation and post-anesthesia care units during times of low census.

Schedule

• 36 hours per week
• Three 12-hour shifts
• Monday through Thursday
• 7:30 PM to 8:00 AM (nights)
• No weekends, major holidays, or on-call duties

Required Qualifications

• Active licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider
• Minimum one year of work experience as a registered nurse
• At least one year of medical-surgical or critical care experience

Education

• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred
• RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and must successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date

• Ability to fully use both legs continuously and use lower extremities for balance and coordination frequently
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted infrequently
• Ability to lift or lower objects 50 lbs. from or to the floor from or to 36 inches unassisted infrequently
• Ability to lift from 36 inches to overhead 25 lbs. infrequently
• Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force frequently (for example, transferring a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist requires 50 lbs. of force; for every 100 additional pounds, assistance from another healthcare worker is required; 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet; 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand)
• Ability to maintain 20/40 vision corrected in one eye or with both eyes continuously
• Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance continuously
• Ability to match or discriminate between colors continuously
• Ability to determine distance and relationship between objects with good depth perception continuously
• Good peripheral vision capabilities continuously
• Ability to maintain hearing acuity with correction continuously
• Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements continuously
