The Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to patients and families in the Emergency Department at Summerville Medical Center. Working under general supervision, you will deliver safe and effective care using the nursing process while collaborating with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to achieve desired patient outcomes.

Clinical Setting

You will work in the Emergency Department at Summerville Medical Center, a facility of the Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA).

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to patients using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Direct and lead assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide age and developmentally appropriate care
  • Deliver patient and family-centered care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs
  • Assess patients, develop nursing diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan interventions, coordinate care, provide health teaching and promotion, and evaluate goal achievement
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through ensuring patient privacy and demonstrating responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior
  • Participate actively in the professional practice model, including shared governance, adherence to standards of care, peer review, and professional development
  • Coordinate effective and efficient delivery of patient care services through application of care management principles
  • Identify clinical priorities and initiate action to improve patient outcomes
  • Accept personal responsibility for professional growth and promotion of a healthy work environment

Required Qualifications

  • Active licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification
  • Minimum one year of work experience as a registered nurse

Education

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred
  • RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and must successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date

Schedule

  • 36 scheduled weekly hours
  • Ability to work rotating shifts required
  • Ability to work overtime as required

  • Lifting from 36 inches to overhead 25 lbs. infrequently
  • Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force frequently (for example, transferring patients)
  • Maintaining 20/40 vision corrected in one eye or with both eyes continuously
  • Seeing and recognizing objects close at hand or at a distance continuously
  • Matching or discriminating between colors continuously
  • Determining distance and relationship between objects with good depth perception continuously
  • Maintaining good peripheral vision capabilities continuously
  • Maintaining hearing acuity with correction continuously
  • Dealing effectively with stressful situations continuously
