The opportunity

Job Description

Duke Primary Care–Family Medicine in Cary is seeking a Registered Nurse II to provide professional nursing care in a comprehensive family medicine clinic setting. This role offers the opportunity to work with diverse patient populations including adults, children, and adolescents in a clinic-based environment.

The clinic is open Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, and provides family medicine, internal medicine, pediatric care, preventive services, chronic illness management, women's health, and diagnostic testing including lab work and X-rays.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, provide, and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process, following physician orders and established policies and procedures
  • Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of licensed and unlicensed care providers
  • Assist other healthcare personnel in the delivery of patient care and maintain the clinical environment including equipment and material resources
  • Prioritize work organization and identify available resources to complete components of care promptly
  • Participate in professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs, and seeking appropriate educational offerings
  • Support the development of other staff and formal learners
  • Participate in identifying clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and assist in improvement activities

Required Qualifications

  • Current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina
  • One year of RN experience
  • BLS certification
  • Graduation from an accredited BSN program, or enrollment in an appropriate BSN program within two years of start date with completion required within five years of start date (exceptions apply for nurses hired before July 1, 2014, or between July 1, 2014, and April 11, 2021)
  • Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing required

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of the scope of the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, and applicable regulations
  • Knowledge of and appropriate application of the nursing process
  • Knowledge of professional theory, practice, and procedure
  • Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families
  • Ability to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, and leadership
  • Ability to teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care
  • Ability to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, treatment, and follow-up
  • Ability to use fine motor skills
  • Competency in BLS and other specialized life support requirements as designated
  • Ability to record activities, document assessments, plan of care, interventions, and evaluation of patient status
  • Ability to use computer and learn new software programs
  • Ability to navigate the facility to provide clinical care
  • Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking
  • Ability to remain focused and organized
  • Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments
  • Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions
  • Working knowledge and completion of appropriate JCAHO and other regulatory requirements
