Registered Nurse, ICU, Full time nights, Clarksville - NEW INCREASED NIGHT SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL!

Vanderbilt Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Clarksville Medical Center. This full-time night shift position offers an increased night shift differential of $10/hour for eligible RNs. You will provide specialized critical care to adult patients in a 21-bed mixed medical/surgical ICU.

Clinical Setting

The ICU specializes in close monitoring and treatment for patients with a wide range of diagnoses, including cardiovascular conditions, acute respiratory failure, ARDS, multisystem organ failure, sepsis, drug overdoses, gastrointestinal bleeds, diabetic ketoacidosis, hypertensive crisis, acute/chronic renal failure, STEMI, cardiogenic shock, and post-heart catheterization patients. The unit recently added neurosurgery services.

The ICU team includes intensivists, advanced practice nurses, critical care nurses, and respiratory therapists. Daily multidisciplinary rounds involve the intensivist, advanced practice nurse, ICU nurse, case manager, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, infectious disease, and nurse leadership. A SWAT team consisting of an intensivist, advanced practice nurse, and charge nurse is available for bedside consultation. Each shift begins with a safety huddle to review safety and quality concerns across a 24-hour period.

Schedule

• Full-time position: 36 hours per week
• Night shift: 6:45 PM to 6:45 AM
• Patient-to-nurse ratio: 2:1

Responsibilities

• Collaborate in establishing the plan of care and coordinate care delivery while anticipating patient needs across the continuum
• Analyze comprehensive patient information to determine nursing diagnoses
• Utilize the nursing process to evaluate patient progress toward goals and apply appropriate interventions
• Employ strategies to promote health and maintain a safe environment
• Perform hemodynamic monitoring (invasive and noninvasive)
• Manage mechanical ventilators and oxygenation
• Provide tracheostomy care and manage lines, tubes, and drains
• Titrate cardiac drips and vasopressors
• Recognize and respond to cardiac arrhythmias
• Participate in bedside shift reports and multidisciplinary rounding
• Respond to codes and rapid response team (RRT) calls

Clinical Skills and Competencies

• Hemodynamic monitoring (invasive and noninvasive)
• Ventilator management protocols
• Cardiac arrhythmia recognition
• Drip titration and management of cardiac drips, vasopressors, inotropes, paralytics, thrombolytics, sedation, insulin, blood products, and TPN
• Oxygenation management
• Tracheostomy care
• Management of lines, tubes, and drains
• Sheath pulls
• Bedside procedures: central lines, bronchoscopy, chest tube insertion, arterial lines, paracentesis, thoracentesis, cardioversions
• Specialized competencies: Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump, Impella device, EVD, Swan Ganz catheter, arterial line management

Medical Equipment

You will work with cardiac monitors, mechanical ventilators, high-flow oxygen, BiPAP, feeding tubes, IV lines, arterial lines, Swan Ganz catheters, Foley catheters, chest tubes, Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, epidural infusions, Arctic Sun, Blanketrol, ultrasound, GlideScope, bladder scanner, tele neurobot, ventilators, and EtCO2 monitoring.

Required Qualifications

• Active Tennessee Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Graduate of an approved nursing program
• BLS certification
• ACLS certification
• NIH certification
• ECG interpretation certification

Orientation

A 12-week orientation is offered based on nursing experience for nurses with at least one year of experience.
