Registered Nurse I- Pediatrics

Rhode Island Hospital seeks a Registered Nurse I for the Pediatrics department. In this role, you will provide direct patient care to pediatric patients across a wide age range, implementing individualized nursing care plans from admission through discharge. You will work the night shift (7pm-7:30am) on an every-other-weekend and holiday schedule in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Clinical Setting

This position is located in the Pediatrics department at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. You will care for pediatric patients with varying acuity levels and clinical presentations.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to pediatric patients using the nursing process
• Assess and prioritize patient care based on physical, psychological, and social needs
• Perform focused assessments of chief complaints in a timely manner
• Delegate, supervise, and participate in safe nursing care activities provided by ancillary personnel
• Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify opportunities for improvement
• Collaborate with the healthcare team, patient, family, and community services regarding patient care outcomes and discharge planning
• Assess and provide appropriate teaching based on patient and family needs
• Manage patient care from arrival through admission or facilitate timely discharges
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and research activities
• Utilize available resources to provide quality, cost-effective patient care
• Meet and maintain clinical competencies through predetermined credentialing standards, mandatory safety education, and current Basic Life Support and ACLS/PALS certifications as appropriate
• Identify growth needs and participate in educational opportunities and professional organizations
• Serve as a role model and preceptor to new graduate nurses and less experienced personnel
• Assume charge nurse responsibility for the patient care unit as delegated

Required Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Rhode Island or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing
• Minimum two years of clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing, ambulatory services, or surgical services in a hospital setting
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current ACLS/PALS certification as appropriate
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to pediatric patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns
• Positive, caring, and customer-service-oriented attitude

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Certified Wound Nurse (American Board of Wound Management certification, Certified Wound Specialist (CWS), or Certified Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse (CWOCN))
• Previous high-volume clinic experience in an outpatient setting

• Physical ability to perform CPR
• Physical ability for extensive walking and standing
• Ability to assist in lifting and positioning patients
• Ability to perform all physical job duties accurately in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruption

Schedule and Compensation

• Night shift: 7pm-7:30am
• Every other weekend and holiday schedule
• No driving required
• Pay range: $35.56-$59.99 per hour
