The opportunity

Job Description

Join the Neurology/Neurosurgery team at Medical University Hospital Authority as a Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) or Registered Nurse II on 9 West, a specialized 23-bed inpatient unit dedicated to adult and geriatric patients with neurological conditions.

Clinical Setting

9 West is located on the ninth floor of the main hospital's West wing and specializes in neurology, neurosurgery, and epilepsy monitoring. All patient rooms are private, with one designated as a reverse air flow room. Nine rooms are equipped with hard-wired continuous epilepsy monitoring capabilities, a program unique to this unit. The floor also manages stroke patients and provides general neurological care.

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, you will provide individualized, goal-directed nursing care to patients and families using principles and practices of the nursing process. You will interact with other members of the healthcare team to achieve desired patient outcomes.

Schedule

  • 36 hours per week
  • 3 twelve-hour rotating or straight night shifts per week
  • Some weekends required

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license from the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider

Education

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred unless you are a current MUSC employee
  • RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of hire or reclassification date
