The opportunity

Job Description

The Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to patients and families in the ART 3West Acute Cardiology unit at Medical University Hospital Authority. Working under general supervision, you will assist at the advanced beginner level in delivering safe and effective nursing care utilizing the nursing process, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to achieve desired patient outcomes.

Clinical Setting

You will work in an acute cardiology interventional setting, providing care to patients requiring advanced cardiac interventions and monitoring.

Schedule

  • 36 hours per week
  • 3 twelve-hour shifts
  • Night shift (shifts vary based on departmental needs)
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime as required

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN licensure from the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider
  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred

Education Requirements

RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and must successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to perform nursing duties in a clinical environment, including:

  • Standing, sitting, and walking continuously
  • Bending and twisting at the waist continuously
  • Reaching in all directions continuously
  • Performing fine and gross motor activities with hands and fingers continuously
  • Performing repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders continuously
  • Squatting, kneeling, and working from elevated areas frequently
  • Working in confined or cramped spaces frequently
  • Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force frequently (such as transferring patients)
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. unassisted infrequently
  • Climbing stairs infrequently
  • Maintaining vision corrected to 20/40 in one or both eyes
  • Maintaining hearing acuity with correction
  • Maintaining tactile and olfactory sensory functions
  • Working in a latex-safe environment
  • Being physically qualified for respirator use as required
