Job Description

Join the Medical University Hospital Authority as a Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) on 9 West, a specialized 23-bed inpatient Neurology/Neurosurgery/Epilepsy Monitoring Unit for adult and geriatric patients. This position offers new graduates the opportunity to develop clinical skills at an advanced beginner level while providing individualized, goal-directed nursing care to patients and families. 9 West is located in the West wing on the ninth floor of the main hospital and features all private patient rooms, with nine rooms equipped with hard-wired continuous epilepsy monitoring—a program unique to this unit. The floor also manages stroke patients and general neurology cases.

Under general supervision, you will utilize principles and practices of the nursing process to deliver patient care and interact with interdisciplinary healthcare team members to achieve desired patient outcomes.

Clinical Setting

9 West is a specialized neurology and neurosurgery unit with 23 private patient rooms. One room is designated as a reverse air flow room. Nine rooms are equipped for continuous epilepsy monitoring. The unit serves adult and geriatric patients with neurology, neurosurgery, epilepsy, and stroke diagnoses.

Schedule

  • 36 hours per week
  • 3 twelve-hour rotating or straight night shifts per week
  • Some weekends required

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse license from the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider

Education

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred unless you are a current MUSC employee
  • If hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing, you are required to enroll in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of hire or reclassification date
