The opportunity

Job Description

Join Main 6 West, a 15-bed Specialty Medicine & Acute Care unit at Medical University Hospital Authority, as a Registered Nurse I (New Graduate). This position offers new graduates an excellent opportunity to build a strong clinical foundation while providing individualized, goal-directed nursing care to adult patients with complex medical conditions.

Clinical Setting

Main 6 West specializes in caring for patients with complex liver disease and a wide range of acute medical conditions. You will work with patients experiencing acute kidney injury, liver failure, cirrhosis, and those preparing for or recovering from liver transplant, along with many other specialty medical conditions. The diversity and acuity of the patient population ensures continuous learning and ongoing opportunities to expand clinical expertise.

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, you will:

  • Provide individualized, goal-directed nursing care to patients and families utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process
  • Interact with other members of the healthcare team to achieve desired patient outcomes
  • Develop and refine time management, prioritization, and critical thinking skills

Schedule

  • 36 hours per week
  • 3 twelve-hour shifts
  • Shifts vary based on departmental needs
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime as required

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse license from the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider

Education

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred
  • If hired with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing on or after July 1, 2013, you are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of hire or reclassification date

  • Lift from 36 inches to overhead 25 lbs infrequently
  • Exert up to 50 lbs of force frequently (for example, to transfer a 100 lb patient that cannot assist requires 50 lbs of force; for every 100 additional pounds, assistance from another healthcare worker will be required)
  • Maintain 20/40 vision corrected in one eye or with both eyes continuously
  • See and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance continuously
  • Match or discriminate between colors continuously
  • Determine distance/relationship between objects and depth perception continuously
  • Maintain good peripheral vision capabilities continuously
  • Maintain hearing acuity with correction continuously
  • Perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements continuously
