The opportunity

Job Description

This position is a Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) role on 6E Stepdown Transplant, a 22-bed adult inpatient unit dedicated to caring for fresh post-operative solid organ abdominal transplant patients. You will support kidney, liver, and kidney/pancreas transplant recipients through every stage of their recovery journey, working in both intermediate/stepdown and acute care settings to broaden and strengthen your clinical skills.

Clinical Setting

6E Transplant is a dynamic unit where nurses manage highly specialized patients with arterial lines and advanced drips. While transplant is the core specialty, the unit also cares for a wide range of acute care patients, providing continuous opportunities to learn and refine your practice in a fast-paced, team-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized, goal-directed nursing care to patients and families utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process
  • Interact with other members of the healthcare team to achieve desired patient outcomes
  • Manage patients in intermediate/stepdown care settings
  • Support post-operative transplant patients through recovery and preparation for discharge

Schedule

  • 36 hours per week
  • 3 twelve-hour rotating or straight night shifts per week
  • Some weekends required

Required Qualifications

  • Active licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider

Education

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred unless you are a current MUSC employee
  • If hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing, you are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of hire or reclassification date

Professional Development

All nurses become ACLS certified and trained in peritoneal dialysis within the first six months, building a strong clinical foundation that opens doors across the organization.
