Join the Orthopedic Unit at MUSC's Main Hospital in downtown Charleston as a Registered Nurse I (New Graduate). This 20-bed acute care, post-operative unit specializes in orthopedic and urology surgeries, including adult reconstruction, total joint replacement, ortho trauma, ortho oncology, and urologic procedures. The unit has received Joint Commission Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Knee Replacement, Joint Commission Gold Seal Certification for Total Shoulder Replacement, and the NAON Nursing Excellence (ONE) Award.
You will work on 10 East in the Main Hospital, providing individualized, goal-directed nursing care to patients and families utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process. You will interact with other members of the healthcare team to achieve desired patient outcomes.
This position requires the ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, and walking continuously. You must be able to bend, twist, squat, and reach in all directions frequently. Fine and gross motor activities with hands and fingers are continuous requirements, including firm grasping and fine manipulation. You will frequently perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders.
You must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted infrequently, and exert up to 50 lbs of force frequently (for example, transferring patients). You will work from elevated areas and in confined or cramped spaces frequently. Climbing stairs, kneeling, and reaching overhead are infrequent requirements.
Vision requirements include maintaining 20/40 vision (corrected) in one eye or both eyes, recognizing objects at various distances, matching or discriminating colors, determining distance and depth perception, and maintaining good peripheral vision. You must maintain hearing acuity with correction and tactile sensory functions continuously.
Additional requirements include the ability to deal effectively with stressful situations, work rotating shifts frequently, work overtime as required, and work in a latex-safe environment. Selected positions may require good olfactory sensory function and qualification for respirator use.
