Rhode Island Hospital seeks a Registered Nurse for the Hematology/Oncology unit. In this role, you will provide direct patient care, implement nursing care plans using the nursing process, and supervise ancillary personnel. You will work collaboratively with the healthcare team, patients, and families to ensure quality outcomes and appropriate discharge planning. This position requires strong clinical assessment skills, patient teaching abilities, and a commitment to quality improvement and professional development.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to hematology and oncology patients from admission to discharge
- Implement and evaluate nursing care using the nursing process and established hospital policies
- Delegate, supervise, and participate in safe nursing care activities provided by ancillary personnel
- Assess patient and family needs and provide appropriate teaching
- Collaborate with the healthcare team, patients, families, and community services regarding patient care outcomes and discharge planning
- Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify opportunities for improvement
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement and research activities
- Utilize available resources to provide quality, cost-effective patient care
- Serve as a role model and preceptor to new graduate nurses and less experienced personnel
- Assume charge nurse responsibility for the patient care unit as delegated
- Meet and maintain clinical competencies through predetermined credentialing standards and mandatory safety education
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse license in Rhode Island or licensure under the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current ACLS/PALS certification as appropriate
- Visual and aural ability to monitor patient status
- Physical ability to assist in lifting and positioning patients, extensive walking and standing, and pushing patients on stretchers
Certifications
- ONS Chemotherapy provider card required within 6 to 12 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- Every other weekend and holiday
- Day shift
Compensation
- $35.56 to $59.99 per hour
