Registered Nurse

This position provides direct nursing care to residents in a long-term care facility while supervising the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. You will work under current federal, state, and local standards to maintain the highest degree of quality care.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants
• Provide leadership to nursing personnel assigned to your unit and shift
• Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required
• Complete and file required recordkeeping forms and charts upon admission, transfer, and discharge
• Receive and transcribe telephone orders from physicians and record on the Physician's Order Form
• Chart nurse's notes in an informative and descriptive manner reflecting the care provided and the resident's response
• Fill out and complete accident and incident reports and submit to the Director as required
• Perform routine charting duties in accordance with established charting and documentation policies and procedures
• Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician
• Administer professional services including catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings and bandages, colostomy and drainage bag care, blood draws, massages, and range of motion exercises as required
• Provide IV and IV site care as needed
• Make rounds with physicians as necessary
• Receive and give nursing reports upon reporting in and ending shift duty hours
• Make written and oral reports and recommendations concerning shift activities as required
• Monitor assigned personnel to ensure they follow established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies
• Develop and maintain good working rapport with interdepartmental personnel and other departments within the facility
• Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift
• Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information
• Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information
• Ensure that all nursing care is provided in privacy and that nursing service personnel knock before entering resident rooms
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Current unencumbered Registered Nurse state license
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
• Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
• Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities
• Current CPR Certification
• Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday
• Ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
• Ability to meet the general health requirements set forth by facility policies, which include a medical and physical examination
• Ability to push, pull, move, and lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet
• Ability to push, pull, move, and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet
• May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
