Registered Nurse First Assist I - CardioThoracic Surgery

This position is a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) role in CardioThoracic Surgery. You will provide direct patient care in the preoperative setting, functioning as first assistant to the surgeon. You will assess, plan, implement, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate patient care activities while working as part of the surgical team.

Responsibilities

• Function as first assistant to the surgeon in the operating room
• Practice an expanded role of preoperative nursing with knowledge and skills acquired through organized instruction and supervised practice
• Interpret diagnostic studies
• Promote positive health behaviors and skills through patient education and counseling
• Assess, plan, implement, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate patient care activities

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Completion of an approved or accredited RNFA course, including required internship hours
• Two to five years of operating room experience
• Proficiency in preoperative nursing practice as both scrub and circulating nurse with diversified operating room experience
• Current Texas State RN license
• CPR certification (American Heart Association)
• BLS certification
• ACLS certification within 6 months of hire or transfer date
• CNOR (Certified Preoperative Nurse) certification required

Schedule

• Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
• Full-time position
