Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Registered Nurse for Emergency Services to join our in-house registry. In this role, you will provide direct nursing care to acutely ill patients in the emergency department, applying the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. You will work collaboratively with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze patient data, identify expected outcomes, and develop individualized plans of care
  • Coordinate care delivery and evaluate progress toward patient outcomes
  • Direct care and determine appropriate utilization of nursing assistants involved in direct patient care
  • Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff to create documented care plans focused on outcomes and service delivery
  • Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing interventions in the health record
  • Individualize the plan of care based on evaluation findings
  • Utilize best available evidence and research findings to guide practice decisions
  • Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of first day of employment in clinical nurse role
  • Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with others
  • Strong analytic abilities

Additional Requirements for Emergency Room

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

These certifications must be obtained within one year of hire.
