Mount Sinai Queens is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Room on a full-time night shift, every other weekend schedule. You will provide direct, continuous care for assigned patients by assessing, diagnosing, planning, and intervening in actual or potential health problems, and evaluating patient responses to care.
Clinical Setting
You will work in a fast-paced emergency department environment, coordinating care activities based on established priorities and collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Responsibilities
- Assess and evaluate patient needs for, and responses to, care rendered, applying sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions
- Provide direct, continuous care for a specific caseload of patients through application of the nursing process based on theory, research, and approved departmental standards
- Coordinate patient care activities including teaching, rounding, counseling, and discharge planning; direct and delegate appropriately to healthcare team members
- Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, significant others, and healthcare team members about the patient's plan of care
- Coordinate discharge planning from admission through discharge or transfer to alternate care settings; conduct discharge phone calls on selected patients
- Participate in performance improvement, nursing quality, and nursing research activities, and utilize findings in clinical practice
- Participate in the design, measurement, and assessment of care-related structures, processes, and outcomes to improve quality of patient care
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and consumer-oriented environment
- Perform charge responsibilities as assigned
- Participate in identification, response to, and investigation of potential and actual risk management issues
- Function as a professional role model and preceptor for students, new hires, and staff
- Maintain clinical competence and take responsibility for professional growth and development
- Participate actively in institutional committees, community agencies, and professional organizations
- Assist in development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of care and professional practice in collaboration with the healthcare team and in accordance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science with a major in Nursing (required for all new graduates and experienced clinical nurse positions). Exception: Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing graduates may be considered for identified specialized areas of practice. New graduates must have current matriculation in a BSN program with graduation date within one year of hire.
- Current New York State Registered Nurse license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (required for ED staff)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (required for ED staff)
- Relevant clinical competence in emergency nursing practice; new graduates must possess current knowledge of the nursing process and its application

Compensation
- Hourly rate: $58.19
- Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need
- Salary range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits
