Mahaska Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department. In this part-time role, you will provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced emergency setting, working with patients and families during critical moments. You will assess patient conditions, administer medications, monitor vital signs, and collaborate with physicians and specialists to develop and implement individualized care plans. This position requires strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and emotional resilience in high-pressure situations.
Clinical Setting
You will work in a dynamic emergency department environment, triaging patients based on the severity of their conditions and ensuring those requiring urgent care receive timely attention.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments and triage incoming patients based on urgency
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians
- Monitor patient vitals and report significant changes to the medical team
- Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to create and implement individualized care plans
- Educate patients and their families about health management and post-discharge care
- Respond swiftly to emergency situations and provide immediate care
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in accordance with hospital policies
- Utilize documentation methods as approved by Mahaska Health
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance
- Perform the physical demands of the job
Schedule
Part-time: Monday and Thursday, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa, or licensed as a Registered Nurse able to work in the state of Iowa
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification by the standards of the American Heart Association
- Completion of Mandatory Reporter course at the time of hire or within 6 months of the start date
- Adherence to all training requirements mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required within one year of hire
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification required within one year of hire
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core) certification required within one year of hire
- Completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training or equivalent
- Completion of 16 hours of continuing trauma medical education every 4 years (4 hours formal, 12 hours may be informal)
