Registered Nurse - Emergency - 0700-27

Valley Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department at VMC Main Campus in Renton, Washington. This full-time position (0.9 FTE) offers day shift hours and provides an opportunity to deliver safe, quality care to emergency patients utilizing the nursing process as the foundation of clinical practice.

As a staff RN in the Emergency Department, you will assume responsibility and accountability for a group of patients during your designated shift. You will work under the direction of the Nurse Manager or Assistant Nurse Manager and collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care.

Responsibilities

• Assess, guide, direct, and facilitate workflow on the unit
• Provide direct patient care utilizing the nursing process
• Monitor and evaluate nursing care given to each patient through direct observation, consultation, and patient rounds
• Assess unit and environmental safety during patient rounds and report or correct deficiencies
• Respond to patient and family concerns and complaints
• Communicate and collaborate with the care team to ensure efficient patient placement and care coordination
• Maintain awareness of Joint Commission standards, state codes, and nursing practice acts
• Demonstrate safe use of patient care equipment and teach others to use equipment safely
• Maintain competencies for direct patient care through continuing education

Clinical Setting

You will work in a fast-paced emergency department environment providing care to patients of all ages with varying acuity levels and presenting conditions.

Required Qualifications

• Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Washington
• Successful completion of a graduate nurse residency program orientation or six months of experience as a Registered Nurse
• Current BLS certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• ACLS and PALS certifications within 3 months of hire
• NIHSS certification within 3 months of hire
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification within 12 months of hire
• ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) certification within 12 months of hire
• One year of experience in Emergency nursing preferred, or successful completion of an ED residency program

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Two years of practice in clinical nursing or leadership in the emergency department

• Functions within ANA Standards and the Nurse Practice Act

• Self-directed in advancing professional practice through continuing education and research

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position requires the ability to provide safe patient handling as defined in VMC's Safe Patient Handling guidelines and policies. You must be able to safely and appropriately transfer or move patients of varying abilities and weights, with team assistance as needed. Physical requirements include:

• Lifting from floor to overhead levels and carrying items at waist level weighing up to 40 pounds
• Ability to participate in team lifting
• Ability to operate patient lifting equipment and patient handling devices accurately and safely
• Ability to stoop, bend, reach, crouch, and squat
• Standing and walking for extensive periods as required for patient care, moving patients or supplies, hourly rounding, bedside shift report, and other nursing duties
• Full body range of motion including ability to reach from floor to overhead levels
• Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination
• Corrected vision and hearing to normal range
• Ability to distinguish colors
