Wellstar Cobb Hospital is seeking a Clinical Nurse Professional Development Educator (NPD) to work day shift in an acute care setting. This role combines clinical expertise with professional development and education to enhance nursing practice across the organization.
As a Clinical Nurse Professional Development Educator, you will assess learning needs, design and implement evidence-based educational programs, and evaluate outcomes to improve professional competency and patient care. You will collaborate with nursing staff, leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to identify practice gaps, develop targeted educational interventions, and measure the effectiveness of professional development initiatives. This position supports both nursing and non-licensed staff through onboarding, orientation, competency programs, and ongoing professional development aligned with the Association of Nurse Professional Development (ANPD) Practice Model and Wellstar's Nursing Professional Practice Model.
You will serve as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing staff, preceptors, and students, modeling professional nursing practice and supporting a healthy work environment. The role includes participating in quality improvement initiatives, promoting evidence-based practice, and supporting performance improvement activities across the organization. You will also maintain a functional clinical role as a member of the interdisciplinary patient care team, ensuring safe, quality patient care while fulfilling your educator responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Conduct learning needs assessments to identify practice gaps and educational needs of target audiences
- Validate identified needs with learners, content experts, and nurse leaders
- Prioritize anticipated educational needs in alignment with system strategic goals and current trends
- Use data to identify future trends and issues affecting clinical practice
- Develop learning outcomes in collaboration with learners and stakeholders
- Establish educational plans that reflect adult learning principles and instructional design best practices
- Incorporate diverse learners' needs related to gender, race, culture, and generational differences
- Implement and coordinate educational programs and activities
- Facilitate positive learning experiences and evaluate progress toward learning outcomes
- Select valid and reliable methods to measure processes and outcomes
- Disseminate evaluation results and revise programs based on evaluation data
- Collaborate with support departments including organizational learning, safety, quality, and IT
- Serve as a clinical resource to nursing staff, leadership, and medical staff
- Consult with preceptors and orientees to facilitate completion of orientation
- Partner with colleagues to effect change and generate positive outcomes
- Facilitate and support performance improvement initiatives with all stakeholders
- Participate in shared governance at all levels
- Serve as a preceptor or mentor for professional nurses, staff, and students
- Develop, coordinate, manage, and evaluate onboarding, orientation, and competency programs
- Promote evidence-based practice, research, and performance improvement
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and value analysis activities
- Apply principles of implementation science to maintain and sustain practice changes
- Develop innovative solutions and strategies to secure appropriate resources and technology
- Introduce and support new ideas and meaningful change
- Perform the nursing process in clinical care using evidence-based practice
- Coordinate delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care
- Complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments and mandatory education
- Ensure patient, family, and staff confidentiality and corporate compliance
- Uphold all organizational policies, procedures, and clinical competencies
- Perform other duties as assigned
Clinical Setting
This position is based at Wellstar Cobb Hospital and may be required to support more than one facility or specialty area.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing
- Active RN license (single state or multi-state compact)
- BLS instructor certification
- Minimum 3 years of nursing practice experience
- Direct patient care experience
- Ability to read, write, and speak English

Additional Certifications
Some specialties may require ACLS, NRP, or PALS per unit requirement. If required, these certifications must be obtained within 6 months of employment (preferred within 180 days).
