We are seeking a Registered Nurse to join our surgical team in the operating and procedure room environment. In this role, you will provide direct patient care throughout the surgical process, working collaboratively with physicians, anesthesia, and other surgical team members to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Participate as an active team member in support of the total surgical process
  • Organize time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management
  • Supervise and direct patient care in the operating and procedure room
  • Organize nursing activities efficiently and effectively
  • Delegate activities appropriate to the abilities of available staff members
  • Consider cost containment by using supplies economically and managing efficient turnover time
  • Assist with supplies, drugs, and equipment inventories to maintain stock levels and availability
  • Address patient needs specific to the surgical procedure
  • Transport patients to and from the operating and procedure room, observing all policies, procedures, and safety requirements
  • Identify patients and correct procedures using two patient identifiers, communicating with the healthcare team according to policy
  • Review patient medical records and needs to provide continuity of care collaboratively with other healthcare team members
  • Provide comfort and reassurance to patients
  • Maintain patient privacy and dignity
  • Verify planned procedures with patients and discuss the plan of care
  • Prepare the operating and procedure room collaboratively with the healthcare team according to patient, physician, and procedure requirements, including assembling and providing properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments
  • Verify sterility and high-level disinfection of instruments and supplies according to policy and procedure
  • Handle and log tissue specimens correctly and accurately according to policy and procedures
  • Ensure physician preference cards are maintained and updated as needed
  • Ensure appropriate and safe patient positioning according to patient needs and planned procedure, monitoring throughout the procedure
  • Administer medications per physician order and document appropriately
  • Monitor patient condition and maintain accurate documentation during the procedure
  • Comprehend and interpret physician orders and direction accurately, following policy and procedures
  • Document medical records and other forms accurately, legibly, and in a timely manner
  • Ensure safe continuity of patient care according to policy and procedures
  • Confirm proper aseptic and sterile techniques are used according to accepted standards of practice
  • Monitor and identify breaks in sterile technique
  • Verify correct surgical site and ensure all radiologic images are present as applicable
  • Perform time out prior to start of procedure, inflation of tourniquet, or incision
  • Ensure correct sponge, needle, sharps, and instrument counts as applicable to the procedure
  • Perform surgical preparation
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned
