Registered Nurse Clinical Expanded II Thoracic Operating Room

Clinical Setting

You will work in the Thoracic Operating Room at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah, caring for patients undergoing thoracic surgical procedures. This role is part of a nationally recognized healthcare system with access to comprehensive professional development and Utah's world-class outdoor recreation.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical expertise, consultation, education, and research in thoracic operating room nursing
• Identify, coordinate, and evaluate projects and assignments related to thoracic surgery specialty care
• Educate and mentor nursing staff and other healthcare professionals on best practices and new developments in the specialty area
• Participate in clinical programs and policy development; support standardization of care protocols
• Promote and integrate evidence-based practices into clinical care, staying current with the latest research and advancements in thoracic surgery
• Represent the department on committees and work with the healthcare team to coordinate and optimize patient care
• Act as consultant and liaison to the healthcare team, patients, families, and community
• Direct and coordinate care team; provide or delegate care according to plan and licensure guidelines
• Manage time, supplies, and resources effectively
• Use assessment data and critical thinking to develop individualized care plans involving patients, families, and team members
• Review patient response to interventions and revise care plans as needed based on goal achievement and satisfaction
• Promote the nursing profession; integrate legal and ethical standards; practice within scope of licensure and comply with regulatory standards and documentation requirements

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license in the state of practice
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (degree will be verified)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers
• Unit-specific certifications as required (such as ACLS, PALS, or other certifications determined by service line and department guidelines)
• One year of clinical nursing experience
• Demonstrated experience in thoracic operating room or assigned clinical area
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide nursing staff
• Previous leadership experience

Education and Certifications

RNs hired or promoted into this role must obtain their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four years of their hire or promotion date, if not already held. If an existing education agreement is in place, that agreement will take precedence.

Applicants must either have required additional certifications (such as ACLS, PALS, or NRP) upon hire or must obtain them within a timeframe determined by service line and department guidelines.

Schedule

• 40 hours per week
• Orientation Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
• Orientation Duration: Based on prior experience and training needs
• Post-Orientation Schedule: Variable shifts based on department needs
• On-Call Requirement: Begins after orientation
• Call Schedule: Frequency and details vary based on departmental needs and staffing requirements

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitors; identify equipment and supplies
• Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors; ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing information, and medication preparation
• Ability to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, up to and including heavy items
• Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing and pulling gurneys and portable equipment; navigate crowded and busy operating rooms
• May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly Range: $41.20 - $62.17 (actual rate dependent upon experience)
