Registered Nurse - Circulator - Main Operating Room - Part Time

Williamson Health is seeking a Registered Nurse - Circulator for the Main Operating Room in a part-time position. As a surgical circulator, you will plan, implement, and evaluate surgical patient care in a timely and accurate manner, working with patient populations ranging from infants to patients over 99 years of age across multiple surgical specialties.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a state-of-the-art operating room suite at Williamson Medical Center, a 337-bed facility with advanced surgical technologies. The OR handles a wide range of surgical specialties including general surgery, genitourinary/lithotripsy, ophthalmologic/phacoemulsification, plastic surgery, orthopedic procedures (including total joint replacement and spinal fixation), ENT, obstetric/gynecologic, vascular, and oral surgery.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments utilizing observation, communication, and examination skills
• Develop age-specific plans of care for each patient, identifying problems and needs, and communicating the nursing plan to the healthcare team
• Anticipate and provide equipment and supplies in a timely and organized manner based on patient and surgeon needs
• Create and maintain a sterile field using principles of aseptic practice, initiating corrective action when breaks in technique occur
• Perform counts following established policies and procedures, initiating corrective action when counts are incorrect
• Provide safe anatomical positioning based on patient and surgeon needs in accordance with policy and procedure
• Monitor and control the OR suite environment including temperature, humidity, and sensory factors; maintain traffic patterns and adhere to OR sanitation policies
• Handle, transport, store, and prepare specimens; administer medications and solutions safely and in accordance with hospital and departmental policies
• Return equipment and supplies to proper locations and prepare the OR room for the next case
• Use supplies judiciously and document patient charges completely and accurately
• Facilitate staff development and assist with orientation and training of new personnel
• Demonstrate responsibility for assigned communication and return promptly from breaks

Required Qualifications

• Active Tennessee RN license
• Nursing diploma or degree from a college or university
• Previous surgery experience
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire
• Ability to work well under pressure and function both dependently and independently
• Flexibility in applying basic nursing knowledge to a variety of settings
• Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing
• Ability to work prolonged standing and working shifts up to 12 hours per day
• Ability to constantly push and pull objects up to 175 pounds
• Ability to lift and turn patients with assistance up to 250 pounds
• Must respond to hospital within 30 minutes for on-call requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Perioperative care experience
• Familiarity with equipment for multiple surgical specialties
• Experience with Amsco Flash Autoclave, network computer systems, Omnicell Medication System, and AT&T Language Line

Schedule

This is a part-time position. On-call duties are required with a 30-minute response time.
