Memorial Health System is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse for the 2 West unit, which provides care for cardiac telemetry, oncology, and hospice patients. This position is 0.9 FTE (72 hours biweekly) and offers the opportunity to deliver comprehensive nursing care in a continuous quality improvement environment while working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Participate in bedside shift reports and handoffs
- Perform hourly patient rounding
- Obtain and document required patient assessments and reassessments per nursing policy
- Develop individualized plans of care and teaching plans based on assessed patient and family needs, revising as needed
- Implement and monitor nursing interventions
- Recognize changes in patient condition and communicate with physicians using SBAR communication
- Coordinate timely and adequate patient and family teaching in preparation for discharge
- Perform admission, handoff, transfer, and discharge procedures
- Collect data related to physical, psychological, and psychosocial health status
- Document all assessments, interventions, and outcomes in Meditech within required timeframes
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounding and collaborate with team members to identify patient needs
- Coordinate with the physician's plan of care regarding admission assessment and discharge needs
- Effectively manage patient care and delegate appropriately according to patient needs and caregiver skill level
Team and Communication
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families based on empathy and trust
- Utilize effective interpersonal communication to facilitate productive relationships with team members
- Promote a positive patient experience
- Clarify any unclear communication between healthcare team members
- Use proper channels of authority when communicating information
- Seek help from appropriate resources as needed
- Maintain current knowledge of and practice within the scope of hospital policies
- Exhibit the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercise strict confidentiality at all times
- Maintain compliance in RQI
Charge Nurse Responsibilities
If selected for a charge nurse role, additional responsibilities include:
- Complete daily nurse leader rounds
- Perform shift checks as assigned
- Assist with completion of chart audits for nursing documentation
- Complete staff assignments taking into account skill level and patient acuity
- Manage throughput on the nursing unit and adjust assignments as needed
- Report to the nursing unit manager any problems regarding performance, safety, staffing, or behavior
- Assist with conflict resolution in the absence of the nursing manager in collaboration with the house supervisor
- Role model positive behaviors with staff including integrity, fairness, and consistency
- Serve as an agent for change for the department
- Assist as super user for completion of incident reports
Required Qualifications
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio (or West Virginia license if working in WV)
- BLS certification required upon hire
- ACLS certification required within 1 year of employment
