The opportunity

Job Description

Spohn Hospital Alice is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. This position offers the opportunity to provide specialized nursing care in a Level IV Trauma Center licensed for 186 beds that serves the Alice community and surrounding areas.

Clinical Setting

Spohn Hospital Alice offers comprehensive medical and surgical services including pediatrics, obstetrics, skilled nursing, emergency and intensive care, as well as cardiac and comprehensive services. The cardiac catheterization lab is a specialized clinical environment requiring skilled nursing assessment, intervention, and patient education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients
  • Address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with your level of practice
  • Administer medications and treatments using appropriate protocols; monitor for side effects and treatment effectiveness
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
  • Assess patient learning needs and provide education to patients, family members, and caregivers
  • Identify patient issues and resources to support care
  • Meet expectations of OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders
  • Make appropriate assignments and delegate to other care providers as needed to manage clinical situations

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license in state of employment or compact
  • BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross) required at time of hire
  • ACLS certification required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
  • One year of experience in a critical care setting
  • One year of experience in the related nursing specialty

New Graduates and Experienced Associates New to the Specialty

This position will accept new graduates. New hires without at least one year of full-time acute care clinical experience in the same service line within the past three years are considered "Experienced Associates New to the Specialty" and have extended credential grace periods:

  • ACLS certification: within 90 days of hire
  • PALS certification: within 90 days of hire
  • TNCC certification: within 18 months of hire
  • TCAR certification: within 18 months of hire
  • NRP certification: within 60 days of hire
  • AWHONN Intermediate FHM certification: within 60 days of hire
  • STABLE certification: within 60 days of hire

Experienced Associates

Candidates with at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years are considered "Experienced Associates" and have the following credential grace periods:

  • ACLS certification: within 30 days of hire
  • PALS certification: within 30 days of hire
  • TNCC certification: within 60 days of hire
  • TCAR certification: within 60 days of hire
  • NRP certification: within 30 days of hire
  • AWHONN Intermediate FHM certification: within 30 days of hire
  • STABLE certification: within 30 days of hire

Onboarding and Competency Requirements

  • All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire
  • New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member
  • Initial onboarding requirements are validated through successful completion of designated organizational entry competency validation and Critical Care Department-specific competency validation
  • Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is required
