Join our 12-bed Behavioral Health Unit as a Registered Nurse providing compassionate, high-standard care to adult and geriatric psychiatric populations. In this full-time, direct hire position, you will lead comprehensive patient assessments, manage psychotropic medications, facilitate therapeutic interventions, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to maintain a safe, healing environment. This role is ideal for a nurse who excels in therapeutic communication and clinical stabilization.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a specialized 12-bed behavioral health unit within a hospital setting, serving primarily adult and geriatric psychiatric patients aged 55 and over. The unit operates with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough psychiatric and physical assessments to monitor patient progress and identify changes in status
  • Safely administer and manage psychotropic medications, monitoring for therapeutic effects and potential side effects
  • Facilitate or assist with group therapy sessions to encourage patient engagement and emotional regulation
  • Act as a primary advocate for patients, ensuring their rights are protected and their individualized care plans are followed
  • Work closely with Patient Care Technicians and the interdisciplinary team to maintain a safe, therapeutic milieu
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques and clinical judgment to manage behavioral emergencies and ensure unit safety

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-2 years of professional nursing experience
  • Active Arizona (AZ) or Compact Nursing License
  • Current BLS certification (American Heart Association)
  • Strong foundational knowledge in psychiatric nursing, medication management, and patient assessment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or interest in Geriatric Psychiatry
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to lead therapeutic groups
  • Comfort working in a specialized unit environment

Schedule

  • 12-hour day or night shifts
