Job Description

Rhode Island Hospital seeks a Registered Nurse for our Ambulatory clinic setting. Under the supervision of the Clinic Administrator or Physician, you will provide direct patient care to ambulatory patients and their families, implementing the full nursing process from assessment through evaluation. You will collaborate with physicians on prescribed medical plans of care, coordinate patient care with the interdisciplinary health team, and participate in clinic operations and quality assurance activities.

Clinical Setting

This position is based in an ambulatory clinic environment at Rhode Island Hospital. You will work in a fast-paced outpatient setting with exposure to communicable diseases; however, adherence to infection control policies and procedures minimizes risk of illness or injury.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to ambulatory patients according to established procedures and the nursing process
  • Implement and coordinate assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, prescription, intervention, and evaluation for each patient
  • Implement prescribed medical regimens, evaluate patient response, and communicate changes in patient status to the physician
  • Perform extended functions in accordance with written Rhode Island Hospital protocols and policies
  • Delegate, supervise, and coordinate nursing care activities provided by Licensed Practical Nurses, Nurses Assistants, Orderlies, and Technicians
  • Collaborate continuously with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other health team members to integrate and ensure continuity of care
  • Identify and make referrals to health team resources within the hospital and community
  • Provide, coordinate, and document patient and family teaching related to health problem management, health promotion, and rehabilitation
  • Participate in clinic and departmental collaborative activities such as joint case presentations and grand rounds
  • Participate in quality assurance activities including monitoring and evaluation of care and validation of nursing standards and procedures
  • Participate in educational activities and orientation of new staff as appropriate
  • Work with affiliated nursing educational programs to integrate clinical practice for students
  • Participate in clinical and operational research activities
  • Assume charge position responsibilities for the clinic as delegated
  • Participate in performance appraisals and organizational committees involving professional practice and patient care standards
  • Seek out and participate in professional development and self-growth activities
  • Stay current with professional, medical, and technological developments and incorporate them into clinical practice

  • Know and act in accordance with Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse license in the State of Rhode Island issued by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing, or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Schedule

  • Monday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM as scheduled
  • Day shift
  • No driving required
