Join UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet-designated hospital, as a Registered Nurse on 11 North, a 22-bed step-down unit specializing in abdominal transplant care. You will provide post-operative care for patients undergoing liver, kidney, pancreas, and intestinal transplants, as well as other complex abdominal surgeries. This position offers the opportunity to become an expert in transplant patient care, transplant medications, and comprehensive patient and family education in a dynamic, patient-focused environment.
Clinical Setting
11 North at UPMC Presbyterian is a specialized step-down unit dedicated to post-operative transplant care. The unit maintains a culture of kindness, caring, and teamwork, with a focus on ensuring positive patient and family experiences, reflected in high patient satisfaction scores.
Responsibilities
- Communicate clearly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team
- Demonstrate awareness of cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in the health professions
- Show accountability for professional development that improves the quality of professional practice and patient care
- Make recommendations for improvement of clinical care and workplace health
- Set priorities and participate in shared governance at the unit level
- Serve as an engaged team member supporting colleagues in service to patients and families
- Actively engage in clinical development and RN residency programs for new hires
- Request opportunities to learn safe, accountable, and autonomous practice from experienced nurses
- Seek, accept, and utilize performance feedback from peers, preceptors, and leaders as a learning opportunity

Schedule
Rotating shifts including weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 unit coverage.
Required Qualifications
- Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse, OR current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC), OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)
- CPR certification based on AHA standards (didactic and skills demonstration components) required within 30 days of hire
- Must complete licensure examination within four months of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first
- Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients and families
- Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple and changing priorities, and work with specialized equipment
- Critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities related to various aspects of patient care
- Good clinical judgment and critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and lead others in application of the nursing process
- Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients
- Mobility and visual manual dexterity
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and interact appropriately with the ages of patients served by the unit
- Knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span
- Ability to assess data reflective of patient status and interpret information needed to identify age-specific requirements

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree
- Completion of UPMC student nurse internship or student clinical transitions course at UPMC
Education
No RN experience is required. BSN is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
Sign-On Bonus
- $15,000 sign-on bonus available for graduate nurses with less than one year of RN experience (2025 and Spring/Summer 2026 graduation dates only)
- $20,000 sign-on bonus available for nurses with over one year of experience
- Candidates who accept a sign-on bonus must commit to a two-year work commitment
Loan Repayment
- Monthly Loan Repayment Program for 2025 and 2026 nursing graduates offering $20,000 in loan repayment paid over three years (eligible flex full-time RN roles receive prorated amounts)
Paid Time Off

Minimum Compensation
The minimum rate of pay for a non-BSN Professional Staff Nurse is $37.00 per hour. Final job title and rate of pay will be based on individual qualifications and candidate choice. Any required certifications and contributions based on job title will be afforded a timeframe to obtain.
