Registered Nurse - 4N Neuro ICU - PRN

This is a PRN (per diem as needed) Registered Nurse position in the 4N Neuro ICU, a 22-bed unit with neurology as the primary focus. You will provide care for a diverse patient population including stroke patients (with and without TNK administration), head trauma, craniotomies, aneurysm repairs, ICP monitoring, and EVD placement/monitoring. The unit also admits surgical ICU patients from PACU (GI, orthopedic, spinal, and other specialties except open heart), medical ICU patients, and occasionally overflow cardiac patients. You will frequently assist with bedside procedures such as chest tube placement, bronchoscopy, and EGD.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients
• Address complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families
• Administer medications and treatments according to protocol; monitor for side effects and treatment effectiveness
• Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
• Assess patient and family learning needs and provide education
• Make appropriate assignments and delegate to other care providers as needed to manage clinical situations
• Meet expectations of OneCHRISTUS Competencies applicable to your level of practice

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license in state of employment or compact license
• Current BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross) at time of hire
• Current ACLS certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in nursing
• One year of experience in critical care setting
• One year of experience in a related nursing specialty

Onboarding and Competency Requirements

• All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire
• New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member
• Initial on-boarding requirements are validated through successful completion of designated organizational entry competency validation and Critical Care Department-specific competency validation
• Completion of all annual competency verification requirements

Certification Grace Periods

If you are an experienced associate (at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years), ACLS must be obtained within 30 days of hire. If you are a new graduate or experienced associate new to the specialty, ACLS must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Additional certifications such as TNCC, TCAR, PALS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate FHM, and STABLE may be required with grace periods ranging from 30 to 18 months depending on your experience level.
