The opportunity

Job Description

Vanderbilt Health is seeking a Registered Nurse 2 for the Main Operating Room, General Surgery team. In this role, you will apply the nursing process to plan and implement patient care in a surgical setting, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. You will work collaboratively with the healthcare team to establish patient goals, coordinate care delivery, and evaluate progress to ensure effective outcomes.

Clinical Setting

You will work within Vanderbilt Health's General Surgery team in the main operating room at one of the region's largest comprehensive academic health systems. Vanderbilt Health operates eight hospitals and over 180 clinics throughout the Mid-South.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in establishing the plan of care, coordinate and implement care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum
  • Analyze comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis
  • Continually utilize the nursing process to evaluate patient progress toward goals and apply appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes
  • Employ strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment
  • Effectively communicate pertinent patient and family information to the healthcare team
  • Engage in learning activities according to Board of Nursing standards to further professional growth

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse license
  • Minimum one year of relevant nursing work experience
  • Graduate of an approved discipline-specific nursing program

Technical Capabilities

This position requires novice-level proficiency in the following areas:

  • Evidence-Based Practice: Ability to search for evidence to answer clinical questions, generally working under the direction of others
  • Care Planning: Ability to anticipate resource needs, identify distinct tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility; competently handle multiple assignments by prioritizing work into manageable units; adapt to changes with minimal disruption
  • Nursing Patient Education: Ability to provide patient education in practical applications of moderate difficulty
  • Nursing Patient Assessment and Evaluation: Ability to assess and evaluate patients in practical applications of moderate difficulty; conduct patient interviews and physical examinations; recognize problems and contact the patient's primary care provider and other healthcare team members; gather pertinent clinical data
