Youth Villages is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to provide clinical leadership and medication management for children and adolescents ages 6 to 17 in residential treatment settings across Tennessee and Georgia. This role is central to a multidisciplinary treatment team serving youth with complex behavioral and mental health challenges, including aggression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and problem sexual behavior.

Clinical Setting

Youth Villages operates residential programs across three facility types: secure facilities, open campuses, and group homes. Each setting provides intensive, trauma-informed treatment designed to help youth develop skills for transition to less restrictive environments. Most youth attend fully accredited on-campus schools alongside therapeutic support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and approval of treatment activities by attending treatment team meetings
  • Monitor medication use and document treatment results
  • Track patient progress and document outcomes
  • Conduct individual, group, or family counseling sessions
  • Provide medication management under the supervision of psychiatrists
  • Educate patients and families about mental illness treatment
  • Diagnose patient conditions and identify underlying causes
  • Interview patients about symptoms and complaints to provide appropriate diagnosis
  • Screen patients for physical illness and analyze explanations for psychiatric illness, including developmental issues, family dysfunction, genetics, neurological trauma, and social or cultural factors
  • Assess risk factors for mental illness and conduct broader wellness evaluations
  • Complete daily documentation including contact notes, milieu notes, and precautionary notes in the electronic medical record system
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in nursing
  • PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner) certification
  • Active registered professional nurse license in the applicable state
  • Current, valid driver's license
  • Ability to complete Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and CPR trainings
  • Ability to pass an agility and strength evaluation

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 6 months of experience in a pediatric or psychiatric setting
  • Experience in a mental health setting
  • Experience working with youth and adolescent populations

Additional Requirements

The role requires prolonged periods of walking, standing, running, climbing stairs, and physical agility. You must be able to participate in physical interventions when necessary and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally more than 100 pounds. A flexible schedule is required.
