Volunteers of America–Greater New York seeks a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Supervisor to provide direct client care and oversee nursing services at Empower Residence, a 24/7 transitional housing program for homeless women in New York City. This role combines clinical practice with supervisory responsibilities, focusing on women with unmet behavioral health needs, mental health challenges, substance use issues, unemployment, and poverty.
Clinical Setting
Empower Residence operates as an enhanced shelter under HRA/DSS guidelines, providing transitional housing and support services to homeless women. You will work in a 24/7 residential environment delivering comprehensive health and behavioral health services.
Responsibilities
- Conduct physical and mental health assessments and risk diagnostics for shelter residents
- Oversee delivery of individual and group health and behavioral health promotion interventions
- Provide short-term psychiatric care including medication management
- Prescribe and renew medications for the caseload
- Supervise LPNs conducting medication administration, health monitoring, and health promotion activities
- Collaborate with the team to conduct required assessments and prepare applications for permanent supportive housing
- Make referrals to and coordinate care with outside providers on medical, behavioral health, and health home services
- Participate in the Incident Review Committee to provide guidance, evaluate trends, and assist with appropriate programmatic response
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Current New York State license as a Registered Nurse or Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
- Nurse Practitioner (NPP) credential required
- Minimum of 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience
