Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

CN Guidance and Counseling Services seeks a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to provide psychiatric assessments and medication management to children and adults experiencing behavioral health crises at our Crisis Stabilization Center. This is a 24/7 operation requiring shared on-call responsibility with other psychiatric nurse practitioners.

Clinical Setting

You will work within an integrated crisis stabilization center serving individuals with serious and persistent mental illness, as well as those with co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse disorders. The role emphasizes person-centered, integrated clinical treatment in collaboration with an interdisciplinary treatment team.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric and substance abuse care and medication management to clients, applying standards of care consistent with good medical judgment and current psychiatric practice
• Administer intramuscular medication when clinically appropriate
• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and substance abuse examinations for diagnostic evaluation, determination of treatment needs, and prognostic assessment
• Assess for danger to self or others using all reasonable methods and collaborate with the treatment team to implement appropriate safety precautions
• Monitor pharmacological effects of prescribed psychotropic medications and report effectiveness to the team
• Consult with staff regarding relevant client medical history and collaborate with community professionals to integrate agency treatment with overall medical care
• Prescribe appropriate laboratory testing in collaboration with the treating physician and implement follow-up as needed
• Produce timely reports to other agencies concerning examined and treated clients
• Establish and maintain appropriate clinical case records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and treatment plan reviews
• Participate in team meetings to provide input on psychosocial conditions and comorbidities, review client status, update plans and goals, and review outcomes
• Provide crisis intervention and follow-up on a 24/7 basis as needed
• Maximize availability for direct client contact through efficient time management
• Facilitate sharing of data with clients to support partnered decision-making and keep clients informed of progress
• Complete quality improvement training during onboarding and participate in refresher training as needed
• Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in advanced nursing practice in psychiatry from an accredited program
• New York State license and registration as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• New York State license and registration as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Psychiatry
• Current DEA registration
• Substantial clinical experience with diagnosis and treatment of the full spectrum of mental disorders in outpatient and/or inpatient settings
• Experience managing seriously and persistently ill clients and those with psychiatric and co-occurring substance abuse disorders
• Familiarity with current DSM criteria
• Certification in Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), including suboxone

Schedule

• Minimum 7 hours per month within the department
• Maximum 19 hours per week
• Shared on-call responsibility with other psychiatric nurse practitioners for 24/7 crisis coverage
