Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) – Part Time

Provident, a St. Louis-based behavioral health agency, is seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide outpatient psychiatric evaluation and medication management services on a part-time basis. This position offers the potential to advance to full-time as caseload grows.

You will work with youth (ages 5+), adolescents, adults, and older adults in office-based and telehealth settings across Provident's St. Louis City location (2650 Olive Street) and Creve Coeur office (12141 Ladue Road). Tuesdays are required to be in-person at the St. Louis City office. Some remote work is available with a reliable high-speed internet connection and confidential workspace.

Clinical Setting

You will work in an outpatient psychiatric services department in collaboration with counseling services, medical assistants, and office administrators. The work environment is typically low-noise, and you will have access to Provident's 24/7 crisis team for clinical consultation. You will work under a collaborative practice agreement with an external psychiatrist(s), with liability insurance and collaborating physician costs paid by Provident.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and treat children (ages 5+), adolescents, adults, and older adults experiencing behavioral health disorders
• Prescribe, recommend, or discontinue medications and treatments for mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders in accordance with the Collaborative Practice Agreement and Missouri's Nurse Practice Act
• Conduct outpatient psychiatric evaluations and provide medication management services
• Collaborate with therapists, case managers, and other treatment team members to coordinate client care
• Design and participate in developing individualized treatment plans incorporating best practices
• Counsel clients during appointments as necessary
• Examine or order laboratory and diagnostic tests to assess physical condition and mental health status
• Collaborate with guardians, relatives, and significant others on client conditions and treatment when clinically appropriate
• Maintain strong relationships with collaborating psychiatrist(s)
• Complete timely and accurate medical records, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and outcome measures
• Prepare and submit assessments, progress notes, reports, and summaries to funders, insurance companies, and other required entities
• Respond to client emergencies
• Make independent clinical decisions based on protocols developed using national guidelines
• Maintain medical records for supervising psychiatrist review: 10% biweekly and 20% of notes for clients prescribed controlled substances per the Collaborative Practice Agreement
• Record all services for accurate billing in compliance with local, state, and federal laws and payor regulations
• Identify opportunities to improve and promote quality; provide teaching and education to clinical staff as requested
• Maintain customer relations with agency staff and clients
• Follow all Provident policies, federal and state regulations, standard practices, and the Collaborative Practice Agreement
• Actively participate in agency and department education, training, and in-services

Schedule

• Work at least 2 days per week
• Work hours between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm, Monday through Friday
• Schedule created in collaboration with Vice President of Programs and aligned with medical assistant and support team schedules
• Must continuously meet minimum required hours and number of direct client service appointments each week; remaining hours allocated for documentation, meetings, trainings, and supervision
• Position is incentive-eligible for appointments exceeding monthly targets

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs
• Attend in-person trainings at Provident office locations and community-based sites throughout the St. Louis metro area and at assigned schools as needed

Required Qualifications

• Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing with focus on Psychiatric Nursing from a state-certified advanced practice program specializing in psychiatry/mental health
• At least 1-2 years providing direct client care to persons receiving treatment for psychiatric disorders
• Ability to work with both adult and youth/child populations
• Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC)
• Unrestricted license to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Missouri
• Valid DEA number and unrestricted DEA license in Missouri (or ability to obtain within 12 months from hire)
• State-issued Controlled Substance Registration (CSR) through Missouri's Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD)
• Registration with the state Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) in St. Louis County and for Missouri (when state-wide PMP is developed)
• No suspension, exclusion, or debarment from participation in federal health care programs (Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP)
• Maintain credentials and licensure with all major insurance companies and licensing boards with assistance from Provident credentialing staff

Required Skills and Competencies

• Clinical competency treating clients of all ages (youth, adult, and older adult populations) with a variety of behavioral health concerns
• Experience delivering high-quality, client-centered care
• Strong computer and software navigation skills, including proficiency with electronic health records (EHR), Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, OneDrive, Word, Excel, Outlook), and other information technology systems
• Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, including risk assessment and safety planning
• Ability to effectively communicate and interact with children, parents, therapists, case managers, medical providers, collaborating psychiatrists, school faculty and staff, grantors, funders, partner agencies, and Provident team members
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general and professional documents; write routine reports and correspondence; present information in one-on-one and small group settings
• Ability to foster teamwork and collaborate with colleagues and team members
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to work productively and make independent decisions
• Knowledge of HIPAA and ability to maintain confidentiality
• Skilled in preparing and maintaining client documentation accurately and timely in compliance with audit and productivity standards
• Ability to foster a positive and inclusive work culture with staff and colleagues and an inclusive treatment environment for clients
• Professional representation of Provident, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 or more years of experience as a psychiatric provider
• Experience in telemedicine
