PSYCHIATRIC CLINICAL NURSE PRACTITIONER

This position is a Psychiatric Clinical Lead - Nurse Practitioner role within an integrated behavioral health care collaborative care model. You will provide psychiatric expertise and advanced clinical leadership, supporting behavioral health care managers, primary care providers, and interdisciplinary teams in the assessment and treatment of participants with psychiatric symptoms, cognitive deficits, and behavioral problems across a wide range of settings.

Clinical Setting

This is primarily a telehealth-based role (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, 40 hours per week) with the requirement to be available to come in person for special cases. You may be assigned to travel to other regions or New York counties as needed. A valid unrestricted driver's license with a registered and insured vehicle is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive psychiatric assessments of participants and develop treatment recommendations
• Provide regularly scheduled consultation to behavioral health care managers and interdisciplinary teams on a biweekly basis and as needed
• Recommend treatment adjustments through case review processes or ad hoc consultations, including medication recommendations and other interventions, within 24 hours of consulting with behavioral health care managers or team members
• Communicate the plan of care to primary care providers in TeamCare and the community
• Provide occasional telephone consultation to medical providers for complex or challenging patient situations, responding to routine calls within one business day and urgent calls within two hours when available
• Provide services including advocacy, psycho-education, psychopharmacology, cognitive and behavioral interventions, monitoring of mental status, emotional support, brief psychotherapy, and family-based interventions
• Prescribe pharmacologic agents based on current knowledge of pharmacology and physiology
• Employ evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to guide screening and diagnostic activities
• Evaluate the accuracy of diagnoses and effectiveness of interventions in relation to participant outcomes
• Identify expected outcomes that incorporate scientific evidence, are achievable through evidence-based practices, and consider cost and clinical effectiveness, participant satisfaction, and continuity among providers
• Provide leadership in coordinating multidisciplinary health care for integrated delivery of patient care services
• Provide in-service training to primary care-based providers and staff regarding recognition and treatment of behavioral health conditions in primary care
• Apply ethical and legal principles to the treatment of participants with mental health problems and psychiatric disorders
• Provide support and education to individuals, families, staff, and groups to promote knowledge, understanding, and effective management of mental health problems and psychiatric disorders
• Maintain records in accordance with Behavioral Health and TeamCare standards and perform established workflow procedures
• Maintain productivity sufficient to meet TeamCare standards
• Assume responsibility for continued professional growth
• Perform all other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Required Qualifications

Education

• Master's degree in nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
• Graduate-level specialization in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing

Licenses and Certifications

• Current, unrestricted New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN)
• Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) with a specialty in Psychiatry/Psychiatric Mental Health
• Current national board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) through an approved national certifying organization
• Current DEA registration and New York State prescribing privileges
• Must meet all applicable New York State requirements for prescribing controlled substances

Experience

• Minimum of one year's experience as a Nurse Practitioner including prescribing
• Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and cultures

Additional Requirements

• Competency in the use of a personal or laptop computer primarily for clinical documentation
• Travel required—ability to travel to other regions or New York counties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
• 3–6 months' experience in Geriatric Care
• Bilingual capability
• Possession of a valid unrestricted driver's license with a registered and insured vehicle

Physical Requirements

Individuals must be able to sustain the following physical requirements essential to the job:

• Standing for up to 6 hours per day
• Sitting in sedentary positions for up to 6–8 consecutive hours per day
• Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds of equipment, baggage, supplies, and ability to lift patients safely using OSHA guidelines
• Bending and squatting to care for patients safely and use medical supplies
• Maneuvering stairs safely, climbing up and down, and walking to access work areas; position requires ability to travel, walk between sites and locations, and work areas throughout the day
• Demonstrating agility and fine motor skills to operate and activate equipment, devices, instruments, and tools (typing, use of medical supplies and equipment)
• Visually assessing patients, reading orders, and typing or writing documentation accurately
• Listening attentively and documenting information from patients, community members, and providers with accuracy; speaking comfortably and clearly for others to understand
• Demonstrating good decision-making, reasonableness, cognitive ability, rational processing, and analysis to satisfy essential functions of the job

Compensation

Salary Range: $175,000–$185,000 annually
