PRN Patient Care Technician - Med/Surg

This is a PRN (as-needed) Patient Care Technician position supporting the medical/surgical nursing team. You will assist licensed personnel in delivering quality patient care on a medical/surgical unit, working directly with patients and the nursing staff to ensure safe, comfortable care experiences.

Responsibilities

• Perform complete and accurate vital signs
• Round on patients consistently to anticipate and address their needs
• Assist with patient meals, including passing and picking up trays in a timely manner, ensuring patients are positioned comfortably, and feeding patients who are unable to feed themselves
• Provide ice water and manage fluid restrictions as directed
• Offer and provide bathing and linen changes, documenting care provided and notifying licensed personnel of any patient refusals
• Obtain intake and output measurements as directed by physician or plan of care
• Update patient room boards daily
• Assist with patient admissions by obtaining vital signs, providing personal care items, and orienting patients to their rooms
• Identify changes in patient condition and promptly notify licensed personnel
• Maintain a safe patient environment
• Document patient and family teaching as requested
• Demonstrate correct use and troubleshooting of patient care equipment
• Participate in developing, prioritizing, and evaluating individualized plans of care
• Assist with chart completion and copying of paperwork
• Coordinate with nursing supervisor and materials management for supply needs
• Ensure charts are properly documented and changes are added to patient charge sheets
• Provide assistance to physicians during patient examinations
• Transport patients to procedures as needed
• Attend monthly staff meetings

Physical Demands

• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
• Use correct body mechanics to position patients
• Assist patients with movement to bedside commode, chair, and ambulation

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• CPR/BLS certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification
• One year of experience in nursing or surgery
