Job Description
The Intensive and Specialty Services Float Pool is hiring a PRN Patient Care Technician to assist the nursing team in providing patient care across multiple inpatient and outpatient care areas. This role requires familiarity with a wide variety of nursing procedures and direct patient care responsibilities under the supervision of nursing staff.
Previous Patient Care Technician or Nursing Assistant experience is required for this position.
Responsibilities
- Independently obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure
- Perform medical asepsis when carrying out skills and tasks including phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, Foley catheter removal, and care for patients who are medically isolated
- Perform simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as enemas, preoperative skin preparation, dressing changes, specimen collection, and application of binders and braces
- Perform special duties as taught and directed by the nurse in charge, including phlebotomy, ECG lead and 12-lead placement, and brace and pin site care
- Assist with patient admission, transfers, and discharges
- Provide direct patient personal hygiene and comfort care
- Turn, position, and ambulate patients
- Transport patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies
- Feed patients, serve drinking water and nourishments, and record patient intake
- Assist patients with bedpans and urinals and record output
- Participate in nursing care conferences and report pertinent patient information and incidents to the nurse in charge
- Provide patient comfort measures through social interactions
- Share responsibility for preparation, proper use and care of equipment and supplies, and for unit neatness and cleanliness
- Assemble and maintain equipment and supplies in preparation for diagnostic or treatment procedures
- Clean areas per designated guidelines and standards using approved disinfectants and cleaning products
- Stock and supply patient rooms and nursing units
Required Qualifications
- Previous Patient Care Technician or Nursing Assistant experience
- Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
Schedule
- 24 hours per month
- Minimum 8 hours must be worked on weekends or during off-shift hours (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Must work 1 summer holiday and 1 winter holiday per year
