PRN Patient Care Technician III

Envision Imaging is hiring a PRN Patient Care Technician III for our outpatient imaging center in McKinney. This role is dedicated to ensuring patients have an exceptional care experience while supporting the clinical team in a fast-paced radiology environment.

As a Patient Care Technician III, you will be responsible for comprehensive patient care before, during, and after imaging procedures. You will conduct detailed clinical screening interviews, assist patients with preparation and positioning, and support technologists and radiologists throughout the exam process. If qualified, you may initiate IVs for contrast studies and provide medical attention for contrast reactions under radiologist guidance. You will also manage prior imaging requests, coordinate with referring providers, and ensure all necessary documentation and consents are complete before exams begin.

Clinical Setting

This position operates in an environmentally controlled outpatient clinical setting. You will work in cool, dimly lighted rooms and may be exposed to radiation (minimized through personal protective equipment), bodily fluids, communicable diseases, and other conditions common to a medical office environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed clinical screening of patients for technologist review and inform technologists of any contraindicated responses that could interfere with patient safety
• Assist patients with securing valuables and changing into proper attire for examination
• Initiate IV lines for contrast studies if qualified and provide medical attention for contrast reactions under radiologist guidance; monitor completion and retrieve lab values
• Prepare examination rooms and non-sterile trays as needed to assist technologists and radiologists
• Ensure safety procedures are followed at all times in all security zones of the center
• Support technologists in preparing patients for exams, helping patients on and off imaging tables, and escorting them to appropriate waiting areas
• Receive, validate, obtain, import, and manage prior outside studies through the Priors Management Grid
• Prepare images and paperwork for interpretation and send images through the PACS system to appropriate locations
• Contact referring provider offices to obtain updated orders and clarify orders when needed
• Collaborate with the Patient Scheduling Coordinator when exam or prep details change for scheduled patients
• Stock changing rooms and maintain tech supplies
• Perform other duties as assigned

Schedule

This is a PRN (as-needed) position with no travel required.

Compensation

Position pay range: $21.17 - $25.50 per hour

Required Qualifications

• One or more years of administrative experience in a healthcare environment (radiology preferred)
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Active CPR certification
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, problem solver, and team player
• Ability to navigate multiple computer screens and browsers quickly and accurately
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced team environment
• Strong communication skills and professional demeanor

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience placing IVs and ability to provide medical attention for contrast reactions under radiologist guidance
• Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant, Paramedic, or EMT training
• Continuing education

Physical Demands

This position regularly requires use of hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. You will frequently be required to talk and hear.

OSHA Exposure Rating

This position has an OSHA exposure rating of 2. It is reasonably anticipated that some employees in this job classification will have occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids.
