This is a PRN (as-needed) float Registered Nurse position at a correctional facility, offering $60 per hour. You will provide nursing care to the incarcerated patient population across multiple correctional facilities as needed.
Clinical Setting
You will work in a correctional healthcare environment, delivering medical and behavioral health services. The role may require you to cover shifts at multiple correctional facilities.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, and deliver nursing care to patients in a timely and accurate manner
- Contact practitioners to obtain orders and administer prescribed medications, treatments, and other tasks as ordered
- Provide emergency first aid care when appropriate
- Check and record vital signs, peak flows, blood glucose checks, weight, and other diagnostic tests on-site as appropriate
- Conduct triage officer intake screenings for necessity and priority at sick call
- Collect and record data for statistical reporting on continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives
- Record information in chronic clinic and outcome study documents as indicated
- Report reactions to treatments and medications, as well as changes in patients' emotional or physical condition
- Provide patient education on topics such as correctional facility policies and discharge planning
- Record care information concisely, accurately, and completely in a timely manner using appropriate formats and forms
- Collaborate and coordinate multiple medical services for diagnosis and treatment as directed by the practitioner
- Maintain aseptic techniques and infection control precautions as required
- Maintain working knowledge of pharmacology, including drug reactions and overdose management
- Maintain working knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutrition
- Maintain working knowledge of social and behavioral sciences as applied to the correctional institutional setting
- Recommend improved procedures, equipment, and supplies to your supervisor
- Notify supervisor of medical or security incidents
- Present or participate in in-service education sessions
- Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA practices as required by government agencies
- Oversee and delegate duties as expected and allowed under the RN scope of practice
- May be asked to act as a backup to the Health Services Administrator/Site Manager
- May be asked to train new hires and coworkers
- Perform any and all other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Active nursing license in the state in which services are to be provided, in good standing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with hands-on training
- Excellent documentation skills
- Knowledge of the RN scope of practice
Schedule
This is a PRN (as-needed) position. You may be directed to cover shifts at multiple correctional facilities.
Compensation
