As a PRN Float Patient Care Technician, you will work under the direction of nurse practitioners and physicians to maximize patient flow through the clinic while delivering an excellent patient experience. This role combines administrative, clinical support, and customer service responsibilities in a fast-paced clinic environment. As a float position, you will travel to designated clinics within a specified geographic area.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and potential customers in the front area and clinic spaces
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized clinic environment, including cleaning examination rooms after patient visits, disinfecting equipment, managing trash, and organizing supply orders
- Complete patient registration, verify identity using government-issued identification, and place patients under the appropriate provider's schedule
- Determine payment methods, describe available payment options (prompt pay, voucher system, insurance filing), collect payments, and log information in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Collect patient or responsible party insurance information and process payments
- Scan appropriate documents or alert the provider when scanning is needed
- Escort patients to examination rooms and determine chief complaints
- Obtain vital signs and patient history, entering data into the EHR in designated clinics with completed competencies
- Utilize Patient Queue, Appointment Tool, and Patient Kiosk systems to manage waiting room flow
- Provide guidance to waiting patients regarding registration, wait times, available services, and payment methods
- Answer phones, respond to questions, return patient and provider calls, and complete daily patient callbacks per policy
- Answer questions while following HIPAA guidelines; consult with providers regarding scope of services
- Process patients in the waiting area following appropriate clinic flow
- Prepare and participate in off-site events as needed
- Prepare weekly supply orders for provider approval and prepare packages, laboratory specimens, and mail for shipping
- Advanced Patient Care Technicians with required competencies may assist providers in obtaining specimens for testing as ordered and report negative lab results to patients per provider direction
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Basic computer skills
- Excellent administrative, communication, and organizational skills with high attention to detail
- Basic math skills (counting, addition, and subtraction)
- Ability to work cooperatively in a fast-paced, team-based environment
- Excellent customer service, organizational, and task-management skills
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in retail, customer service, or healthcare
- Knowledge of infection control practices
