The opportunity

Job Description

University of Utah Health is seeking a PRN Ambulatory Procedural Registered Nurse for Huntsman Mental Health. This position supports patients before, during, and after diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including IV Ketamine, Spravato, ECT, and pre-operative and post-operative care.

Clinical Setting

You will work in an outpatient procedural setting at a Level 1 Trauma Center and nationally ranked academic medical center. The University of Utah Health system includes five hospitals and eleven clinics providing comprehensive services and advanced patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in outpatient procedural settings
  • Support patients before, during, and after diagnostic or therapeutic procedures
  • Prepare patients for procedures
  • Monitor patients continuously during procedures
  • Provide sedation support or administer sedation as credentialed
  • Support patient recovery and discharge
  • Coordinate care with procedural teams to ensure patient safety
  • Maintain effective workflow and provide timely intervention across varying levels of procedural complexity and patient acuity

Career Levels

This position may be filled at multiple career levels based on your qualifications, experience, and demonstrated skill set:

  • Nurse Level 1 (N1) – Supervised Learner: Entry-level nurse developing foundational clinical skills while providing patient care under close supervision
  • Nurse Level 2 (N2) – Independent Practitioner: Developing nurse who independently manages routine patient care and escalates complex clinical needs as appropriate
  • Nurse Level 3 (N3) – Confident Practitioner: Experienced nurse who independently manages typical patient complexity, anticipates needs, and adapts care to clinical variations

The final position level and corresponding compensation will be determined at the time of offer based on your assessed competencies, experience, and alignment with the requirements of each level.

Required Qualifications

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if relocating to Utah
  • Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah
  • Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department
