The opportunity

Job Description

The Phoenix VA Health Care System is seeking an Interventional Radiologist to join the Diagnostic Imaging Service. This position provides interventional radiology subspecialty services to Veterans across central Arizona, including inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the full spectrum of interventional radiology procedures
  • Evaluate and prioritize interventional radiology orders and consults
  • Order and evaluate appropriate laboratory studies
  • Perform inpatient consultations
  • Evaluate outpatients in the interventional radiology clinic
  • Protocol and approve complex imaging exams
  • Report on a variety of complex imaging exams, including cross-sectional vascular imaging, with accuracy and timeliness
  • Notify providers of critical imaging results in a timely manner
  • Attend intra-facility multidisciplinary conferences
  • Participate in teaching Radiology residents for the University of Arizona IR/DR program
  • Read cross-sectional vascular imaging such as CTA abdomen pelvis and CTA runoff

Clinical Setting

The Diagnostic Imaging Service at Phoenix VA Health Care System Medical Center provides radiology subspecialty services to Veterans. You will work in a VA medical center environment with access to academic training programs.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with rotating night and evening coverage and weekend call responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree from an allopathic or osteopathic medical school accredited by LCME or COCA for the year the degree was granted
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
  • Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification, OR one year of post-medical school training followed by two years of independent practice under a full and unrestricted license, OR non-U.S. residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • U.S. citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited)

Conditions of Employment

  • Subject to urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment
  • Selective Service registration required for males born after December 31, 1959
  • Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation
  • Subject to background and security investigation
  • Participation in seasonal influenza vaccination program is required for all VA Health Care Personnel; exemptions available for medical or religious reasons with face mask requirement
  • May be required to serve a probationary period
  • Acceptable form of identification required for pre-employment verification (REAL ID-compliant driver's license or state-issued identification card required as of May 7, 2025)

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $325,000 to $400,000 per year (determined through formal pay-setting process based on education and length of practice)
  • Recruitment and relocation incentives (sign-on bonus) may be available for highly qualified candidates
