The opportunity

Job Description

Oklahoma Arthritis Center seeks a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to provide comprehensive rheumatology care. Operating under physician direction, you will manage the full spectrum of patient care from initial consultation through ongoing assessment and treatment of rheumatology patients.

Responsibilities

  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies
  • Conduct patient interviews and physical examinations
  • Obtain, update, and review medical histories
  • Write prescriptions for rheumatology patients
  • Counsel patients on preventive care and therapeutic regimens
  • Perform therapeutic procedures including joint injections and aspirations
  • Develop and implement patient management plans to ensure continuity of care
  • Administer IV infusion medications
  • Document patient care services in patient and department records
  • Identify short-term and long-range patient care issues and recommend courses of action
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Adhere to infection-control policies and protocols
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry best practices, trends, and applicable federal and state laws regarding scope of practice
  • Attend educational workshops and participate in professional societies
  • May supervise other medical staff as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in biology or another science or medical field
  • Professional licensure in good standing with all applicable federal, state, and local licensing bodies
  • 3 to 5 years of clinical assessment experience with patients
  • Current knowledge of industry best practices, trends, and applicable federal and state laws regarding scope of practice

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in rheumatology

Schedule

  • Monday through Thursday: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Hours may vary based on daily patient schedule
  • Weekend and holiday on-call hours expected from time to time
  • May be required to supervise an infusion team on occasion

Travel Requirements

  • Travel to other Oklahoma Arthritis Center locations is expected

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to sit, perform data entry, and view computer screen for extended periods
  • Daily standing, walking, bending, and maneuvering
  • May require lifting up to 50 pounds or more to transfer and/or turn patients with and without assistive devices

Environmental Conditions

  • Occasional exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards
  • This is a safety-sensitive position

Equipment

  • Computer, standard medical equipment, and various medical instruments
