Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our hepatology outpatient team. You will provide specialty care to hepatology patients in a physician office setting, managing chronic health conditions and working collaboratively with attending physicians. This role includes clinic visits Monday through Friday, hospital rounding as needed, weekend coverage on a rotational basis, and may include e-consults and telehealth.

Responsibilities

  • Record patient medical history and physical assessments, develop therapeutic care plans, order diagnostic tests, interpret results, and provide accurate medical record documentation
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies to determine and implement treatment plans
  • Make medical diagnoses and institute appropriate therapy within applicable scope and standards of practice
  • Institute emergency measures and appropriate stabilization in acute patient situations such as cardiac arrest, hemorrhage, or shock
  • Ensure appropriate understanding and timely EMR documentation to support accurate medical coding and billing
  • Educate patients and family members regarding health and illness prevention, medication and treatment instructions, and recommend community resources
  • Communicate effectively with the attending physician regarding the plan of care and involve them in clinical decision-making for issues outside your scope of practice
  • Maintain mandatory professional continuing education, actively participate in patient safety and quality improvement initiatives, and maintain professional practice consistent with organizational mission statements
  • Perform specialty-specific procedures as stated with privileging and job agreement

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies (PA) or Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) from a state board-approved program
  • Current PA Physician Assistant License (PA-C or board eligible) OR National Board Certification for Nurse Practitioners through AANP, ANCC, NCC, or PNCB
  • Practicing-state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (for NP applicants)
  • Prescriptive Authority from the practicing state (required within 60 days of hire)
  • Drug Enforcement Agency Licensure (required within 60 days of hire)
  • CPR - American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Emergency or Critical Care setting

Additional Requirements

  • Ongoing successful recertification (NCCPA) as a PA-C within 90 days of hire (for PA applicants)
