Geisinger's Neuroscience Institute is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join the neurology team at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, PA. This position offers the opportunity to work in a comprehensive neuroscience program spanning multiple campuses across Pennsylvania, with a focus on quality outcomes and innovative management pathways.
Clinical Setting
You will work primarily in an outpatient clinic setting, with potential inpatient responsibilities as needed. Geisinger's Neuroscience Institute includes most neurology and neurosurgery subspecialties along with neurology and neurosurgery residency programs across locations in Danville, Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, State College, and Lewistown, Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities
- Perform initial assessment and triage of patients based on presenting conditions
- Track pertinent procedure and laboratory results, discuss findings with the physician, and communicate results and plans to patients and families
- Assist with arranging appropriate follow-up care for patients
- Answer and return phone calls from established patients and families, assess their needs, and relay information regarding care plans
- Obtain or assist in the preauthorization process for medications, diagnostic studies, and treatments
- Screen patients
Required Qualifications
For Physician Assistant candidates:
- Master's degree from an ARC-approved Physician Assistant program
- Eligible or certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Eligible or certified by the State Board of Medicine
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
For Nurse Practitioner candidates:
- Certificate of completion from an approved Nurse Practitioner program
- Eligible for or certified by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing
- Certification to work with all patient population age groups
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Schedule
