Northwestern Medicine's Medical Oncology team is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner for a casual/per diem position. You will join a team of 50 Advanced Practice Providers delivering specialized care across the full spectrum of oncology diagnoses. In this outpatient role, you will manage an average of 8 to 16 patients per day, with responsibilities focused on follow-up visits for patients receiving chemotherapy and conducting scheduled toxicity assessments.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive appraisals of patients' health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations
- Provide direct clinical care to patients
- Prescribe/order medications and therapies; order and interpret laboratory tests, x-rays, and procedures according to clinical privileges
- Evaluate patients to determine their need for further health care
- Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families
- Document all care, education, and procedures in the medical record
- Refer to other disciplines as appropriate and serve as a consultant in areas of expertise
- Integrate research-based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision-making
- Maintain a professional image in appearance, manner, and presentation
- Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community
- Maintain certifications and continuing education as required for licensure and privileging
- Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, or hospital committees and task forces as appropriate
- Serve as a role model and preceptor to students
- Provide formal education to internal and external groups pertinent to your specialty
- Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives for your patient population

Required Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited school/college of nursing and current Illinois RN license, current Illinois Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license, and certification as an APRN by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board; OR Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program and current Illinois PA license
- Controlled substance license and DEA number (may apply once licensed)
- Privileged and credentialed through the Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
