Ochsner Health is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join the Gastroenterology department in a collaborative outpatient clinic setting. You will work with residents, fellows, attending physicians, and clinical staff to provide comprehensive patient care, medical management, and emergency stabilization when needed. This role includes teaching responsibilities for residents and medical students, staff development, patient education, and discharge planning, all under the supervision of the Medical Director or approved staff physician.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary and urgent medical management for outpatient gastroenterology patients
  • Perform emergency stabilization of critically ill patients as needed
  • Collaborate with residents, fellows, attending physicians, PCCs, staff nurses, and discharge coordinators in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care
  • Teach residents and medical students
  • Contribute to staff development and education initiatives
  • Provide patient education and discharge planning
  • Utilize approved medical practices in all patient care delivery
  • Adapt care approaches to specific patient populations, respecting privacy and individual communication needs
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to the role
  • Ensure compliance with the organization's Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or graduation from an approved Physician Assistant Training Program
  • Active Physician Assistant license in the state of practice

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Eligibility for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Medical Examiners

  • Computer proficiency with Windows-style applications and various software packages specific to the role
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to present information clearly and professionally
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at department and system levels
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout and between facilities
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including 24/7 availability, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties
  • Manual dexterity and ability to stand for prolonged periods
  • Ability to stoop, bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands
